Legend for the Cartoon - 1978 College Magazine
Excerpts from ‘Legend for the cartoon in the fly leaf’ of our College Magazine 1978:
‘The first block houses eagles over its terrace and hunting is strictly prohibited here. Trespassers and omelette-lovers will be prosecuted. You get a free view of any play or dance in the Gandhi Museum stadium,’
‘The extension counter of IOB, sees a lot of turnover and the Madurai Medico has always a savings account of Rs.5 only, and this is one of the few banks not touched by robbers.’
‘In the library straining the brains of our students, some students rest their brains and they sleep over the books. It is also a large recreation room in between classes; there are as many mosquitoes as there are books but fewer girls at any time of the day.’
‘The third block adjacent to the L.H. houses the animal house above the III floor, which hosts no pet animals. But what thrives there has a veterinary officer to take care of them. But it will be surprising that many students have not known its existence and fewer have crossed its entrance. When research abounds in our college in future we might have monkeys here but never an elephant. They are becoming extinct, you know.’

Our Batch-mate and Rangoli!
All of us are reminded about one of our batch-mates whenever we see a Rangoli displayed. You find below his own portrait shaped by himself and also an excerpt from his letter about his other arts.
“The Line Drawing that I have mailed to you is a photoshoped image of my photograph; it’s not my original Work. I have downloaded many Photoshop Apps. from Apple Store. I transform my photographs using those Apps. in my iPhone itself and I mail them through my iPhone. I have given-up doing Rangoli, Painting and Drift Wood Sculpture, long back. Even my wife and my son do not believe if I show them my original works done in our college days! I resort to digital technology in my Artistic works. In recent days I'm interested in Digital Arts. I do have softwares for Real Time Painting and also for Sculpting in cyberspace.”
Passionately yours,
MD.Singam.

Mosquitoes to check Dengue and Malaria!
News from a daily:
For tackling Dengue menace, Genetically modified male mosquitoes (GMMs) are to be released in our environment.
Excerpt::
"The GMMs will copulate with the female (Aedes and Anopheles) mosquitoes and cause the larvae to die due to the presence of killer genes. This will make them(Aedes and Anopheles) refractory to transmit Dengue virus and Plasmodium," said Dr.B.K.Tyagi, Director in-charge, Centre for Research in Medical Entomology (CRME), at Madurai.
Note this:
Malaysian Government would be releasing about 2000 GMMs this year. Read more about it here:

Appreciation from our Batch-mate afar!
Read here an appreciation mail from our Batch-mate afar:
Dear All,
Many have written poems regarding our batch meet at Mahabalipuram. I am not expert but only one word is enough simply "SUPERB". All the credits go to organizers especially for keeping all of us busy and tightly engaged from the time we meet till we all leave. So I thank all of our batch mates to be so kind and loving to me still though I have not met for 16 years and many after 20 years. But still I miss so many of closemates like Banu Sirajiya, Dilshad, Rukmini, Parvathavardini, Manjula, Lalitha, Parvathi, Gomathi, Jebamani, Jaffar, Kumar, Usha, etc. I wish they all have to take interest to come and meet us.
I thank personally Dr.TSC, Manicks, Jeyaram, Ramesh, Lakshmi, Selvamani and Balanagammal to keep the stay pleasant in Chariot Beach Resort.
With love to all

Dear all,
I’m Dr.Subbulakshmi (Padma to Baloo's friends).
The two days batch meet was very nice and the most striking feature which i noticed was the equal enthusiasm, freedom, cheerfulness and happiness among the girls of your batch which I think would not be there in any batch, and which made me give this mail and the main reason which makes me attend the meet..
Hats off to madurai medicos 1973.
